Adding Vehicle Lifts
Wheelchairs have become more advanced and more innovative. They make day-to-day routines convenient for disabled individuals. Other mobility technologies designed to make transportation an easy feat for the physically challenged have also been invented and continuously improved. One of the useful devices leading the forefront mobility innovation is the wheelchair stair lift. These lifts are domestic mobility addition, a convenient and portable aid that can be used with vehicles. With the introduction of this new type of lift, wheelchairs need not have to be lifted or moved manually.
Wheelchair Lift on the Vehicle
Moreover, the uncomfortable and dangerous process of lifting a wheelchair-bound individual into a car, bus, or any other transportation vehicle can now be avoided. Vehicle wheelchair lifts are designed for both private and public types of vehicles. They also come in two types, namely the inside lifts and the outside lifts.
1. Inside vehicle lifts – the type of lift, which you can place inside a car. It is detachable; it can be folded and kept at the vehicle’s back or compartment when not in use. Some SUVs, vans, and other large vehicles today are designed with built-in lifts for wheelchairs and mobility scooters.
Inside vehicle lifts can be operated using manual or electric power. The number one advantage of this type of lift is that the vehicle does not have to be modified just to accommodate its installation. This means that the handling of the vehicle will only be affected by the lift’s additional weight and not by any change in the vehicle’s design. Another advantage of an inside lift is that it can be safely stored inside the car for longer, continued use.
2. Outside vehicle lifts - designed like an elevator. They can be easily mounted to a standard hitch that can be found on the back of a car, van, or truck. The main advantage with this type of lift is that it offers space savings and maximum convenience since the lift does not have to be kept and stored inside the vehicle. However, the lift might easily get damaged since it is not protected from environmental elements such as rain, snow, and sun.
Depending on your need and taste, you may either choose an inside or outside vehicle lift to facilitate movement in and out of a vehicle.
